Three letter difference
Georgi Gospodinov receiving the great Bookers award in London all of that happens with only 30 letters in our alphabet, and this caused universal euphoria. I thought of two other letters from our alphabet who literally work wonders.
Culture and fake
Only three letters difference, right? Otherwise - from earth to heaven. And with this I am answering the endless cries, how the state should money into culture, support authors, actors, invest in theatres, provide them with everything they want now and immediately... Otherwise it, the state, is good for nothing.
Well - I don't believe that any state has invested a money in Georgi's novels or - if we go back a further and a global scale - in the books of Kurt Vonnegut, Hermann Hesse, or any other brilliant author you choose. A skilled author just sits down and writes, an actor just makes great roles, an amazing artist makes even more awesome paintings.
Talent doesn't need a state and money from it, it needs a market - readers and viewers, consumers, of what it creates.
And here is the role of the state - to create a good market, conditions for free competition and solvent consumers so that they can "consume" good culture. If that doesn't happen, then change the two little letters at the beginning and.... you know what will happen.
